Lash Extension Do's & Do Not's
Lash extensions are a beautiful thing. Yes, they are a maintenance beauty service just like brow waxing, pedicures, fill-ins, coloring your hair, etc. The feeling you get when you leave your lash appointment is incredible. You feel like you can take on the world with no makeup, sweat pants, and a messy bun. However, so you don’t ruin your lash technician’s hard work & your time & money, the following is a list of do’s & do not’s to maximize the life expectancy of your new lashes.
Below are a list of things to stay clear of to help preserve your beautiful extensions.
Do’s and Do Not’s
Don’t apply mascara over your extensions
This will cause your lashes to break and fall out.
Don’t rub your eyes
Rubbing your eyes will break down the adhesive, causing your lashes to fall out.
Don’t get your lashes wet less than 48 hours post application
That means showering, washing your face, working out, any sweating, sauna, steam room, etc.
DO use an oil-free makeup remover
Go purchase an oil-free makeup remover. Oil will remove your lash extensions.
Don’t use an eyelash curler
You should absolutely not need to curl your extensions.
Don’t forget to brush your lashes
Brushing your lashes will ensure they are clean and remain looking full. Your lashes will look a little wacky when you wake up and after showering.
DO clean your lashes
Make sure you are cleaning your lashes with an oil free cleanser or Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. A build up of debris will cause bacteria and possible itching.
Don’t use oily serums, moisturizers and eye creams must be oil-free
Do not use these products around your eyes. This will cause your eye lids to pull the oils onto the eye lid and the oil will break down the adhesive causing the lashes to fall out.
Don’t choose a cheap lash technician
You get what you pay for! The best extensions are pricey and require consultation. Costs vary from $150-$650. Cheap lashes will look waxy and fake. Cheap adhesive will cause reactions.
Don’t take lashes off yourself
They will feel weird at first. It will take you 3-4 days to get use to the feel of lashes. Never, ever pick at them! The only way to remove lash extensions is with a pro. You will end up tearing out or breaking your natural lashes.
Don’t let the water hit your face in the shower
You will have to re-learn how to wash your face. Get as low as possible in the sink and wash the bottom half of your face with the water.
Don’t sleep on your face
The safest way to sleep is on your back. You can sleep on your sides but your outer corner of lashes will fall out quicker than others. The cotton sheets or pillow case will pull out your lashes if you sleep on your face.
Do your research
In North Carolina and South Carolina the only legal lash technician is a licensed Cosmetologist or Esthetician. There is NO such thing as a lash certification. You can get a lash certification, but if you are not a licensed Cosmetologist or Esthetician, you are not allowed to practice lash extensions. Ask your lash technician to see their license and also their certification.
