What is microneedling?
Microneedling uses a pen with very fine needles to make tiny, controlled channels in the skin. Your skin responds by starting its own repair process. Caroline works with a treatment serum throughout, so it goes on while those channels are open.
What people book it for
The look of fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, acne scarring and dull or uneven tone. Caroline will tell you what is realistic for your skin before you commit to anything.
Paired with a serum
A treatment serum goes on as Caroline works. It helps the pen move smoothly over the skin and means the serum is applied while the channels are open, rather than on the surface afterward.
Best as a series
Most people book a course of sessions several weeks apart. Caroline suggests a plan once she has seen your skin, and the series prices below cost less per session.

Your appointment, step by step
About an hour for the face. Caroline is with you from the moment you lie down to the moment you leave.
-

01
Prep and numbing
Caroline cleanses your skin and applies numbing cream before anything else, then talks you through what she is about to do.
-

02
The treatment
She works area by area, at a depth set for each one, holding the skin taut and checking in with you as she goes.
-

03
Neck and chest, if you add them
Add the neck, or the neck and chest, and she treats them in the same appointment: about 75 minutes with the neck, 90 with both.
-

04
Before you leave
Expect to leave red. Caroline goes through your aftercare: no direct sun, no heavy makeup and no retinoids for about two days.

What clients say about Caroline
“I have been going to Caroline for nearly 7 years now. My only complaint is that I did know her sooner! All of her services are amazing!”
“Caroline is one of the best, if not THE best, esthetician in the area. She takes the time to discuss your skins needs before treatment.”
After your treatment
What to expect afterward
-
When you leave
Expect to leave red. Redness is the expected response, not a sign that something has gone wrong, and how much and for how long varies by client and by skin. This is not a treatment to book for the morning of an event.
-
The first two days
Keep direct sun off your skin, skip heavy makeup, and pause active ingredients such as retinoids.
-
Your routine
Gentle cleansing and simple, nourishing products while your skin settles. Caroline talks you through aftercare before you leave.
Caroline goes through your aftercare before you leave. Who should not have microneedling is covered below.
Before you book
Microneedling is not right for everyone
Microneedling is not suitable if any of these apply to you right now. If you are not sure, ask before you book.
- Pregnant or nursing
- An active cold sore in the treatment area
- Uncontrolled diabetes, hepatitis, hemophilia or a heart condition
- A history of keloid scarring above the neck, or a chronic skin condition
- Accutane (isotretinoin) in the last six months
- Severe or cystic acne, which needs to calm down first
- Please mention blood thinners, recent peels or laser, recent Botox or fillers, radiation or chemotherapy, and steroids or anti-inflammatories
Caroline goes through your health history before booking, and will tell you if it is not right for you.
Who It's For
For skin that is ready for a more involved course. Caroline will tell you at your consultation if microchanneling, a peel or a facial would suit you better.
- Uneven texture you would like to work on over a course
- The appearance of acne scarring
- Clients ready for a more involved series of treatments
- Anyone who can plan around a couple of days of redness
- Clients who want the same practitioner for every session of a course
Common Questions
Caroline applies a topical numbing cream before the treatment begins. She talks you through each step before she starts and checks in as she goes, and you can tell her at any point if something feels uncomfortable.
Yes. Skin by Caroline at Refined with Caroline offers microneedling for the face, the face and neck, or the face, neck and chest, at 1643 Celanese Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Every session is performed by Caroline, a licensed esthetician, and you can book a single session or a course. Booking is online, or call or text (980) 999-0974 with any questions.
Microneedling uses a pen with very fine needles to make tiny, controlled channels in the skin, at a depth set for each area. Those channels prompt the skin's own repair response and let a hyaluronic acid serum, applied as Caroline works, reach past the surface. It is not a peel and it is not an exfoliating treatment, so it is not a stronger version of something you may already have had.
Yes, and it is worth planning for. Expect to leave red. Redness is the expected response to the treatment, not a sign that something has gone wrong, and how much and for how long varies by client and by skin. For about two days afterward, keep direct sun off your skin, skip heavy makeup, and pause active ingredients such as retinoids. This is not a treatment to book for the morning of an event.
It depends on your skin and what you would like to change, which is what Caroline looks at before you book. Microneedling is usually done as a course, with sessions spaced several weeks apart, and once you are where you want to be it moves to a maintenance rhythm a few times a year. Caroline will suggest a plan after she has looked at your skin rather than sell you a fixed package.
They are related, which is why people compare them. Microneedling works deeper, at a depth set for each area, and asks more of you afterward: visible redness and about two days of sun, makeup and active-ingredient caution. Microchanneling is the gentler option. ProCell describes it as working without penetrating living tissue and puts its downtime at about ninety minutes, and a pair of ProCell aftercare serums goes home with you.
Caroline will not promise that. People book microneedling with texture and the look of scarring in mind, but what any one person sees depends on the scarring, the skin and how many sessions get done, and nobody can tell you before looking at you. At a consultation Caroline will tell you what she thinks is realistic for your skin, including if something else would serve you better.
Use the booking button on this page. Booking runs through GlossGenius, the same system used for every spa service at Refined with Caroline. If you are not sure microneedling is right for you, book a skin care consultation instead and Caroline will tell you.
From Caroline
Every session is done by Caroline
Refined with Caroline is my solo practice in Rock Hill, South Carolina. I am a licensed esthetician and I handle every appointment myself, start to finish. There is no rotating staff and no handing you off partway through.
That matters more with microneedling, because it is usually a course rather than one appointment. The person who looks at your skin at the first session is the same person treating it at the last, and I remember what your skin did last time.
I look at your skin before I begin and I will tell you if microneedling is not the right treatment for it that day. If microchanneling, a peel or a facial would serve you better, that is what I will suggest.

Still deciding
Not sure it is right for your skin?
Book a skin care consultation. Caroline looks at your skin, asks what you have used before and what you have had done, and tells you whether to start with microneedling, microchanneling, a peel or a facial.
If you have a question about anything on this page, ask. I would rather talk it through with you than have you guess.
Want less downtime?
Microchanneling is the gentler option on the same menu. ProCell puts its downtime at about ninety minutes, and every session comes with a pair of the ProCell aftercare serums to take home.
